In need of a Chance for Georgia Tech

I actually disagree…I believe your chances are shaky at best. You should be fine with the GPA, but the mid 50% SAT is 1920-2160 (1310 - 1470 math and CR). Still, you may get in.

Yeah, I’ve actually checked the SAT range for GT and I’m at the tail end of it.

This thread is a perfect reason why “chance” threads are pretty useless on this website. Most people have no idea what they’re talking about.

Before I can give an accurate assessment, can you break down the GPA by class? List the class, the grade, and the level (AP, honors, etc.). Then I can calculate a GT GPA.

A 600 SAT Math will make it very difficult to get in, though. You’re a reach because of that alone. Your CR is good, but the Math is weighted much more heavily. Have you considered taking the ACT?

Yeah, I can do that. I’ll just list my Trascript

9th Honors Lit - 96/91
Honors American Lit - 93/91
AP Language - 90/87
AP Literature - 88

H Bio - 88/86
H Anatomy 82/82
H Chemistry 81/83
AP Physics 81

Algebra
Geometry
(I took these in middle school, so I forgot the grades I got. But they were B’s)
Alg II - 88/94
AP Stat - 88/85
H Analysis - 70/66
(Even though it’s an Honors, my school gives an AP Credit of 1 extra point. I doubt it counts for anything else outside of my school though.)
AP Calc BC - 81

H World Geography 91/90
H World History 94/92
AP US History 84/90
AP Psychology 85/94
AP Government 84

That’s it as far as my Core Classes go. Spanish and Orchestra are my Electives, but I got an A in both classes so far.

Ten Characters

Ok, I calculated a 3.50 for a GT GPA (which is an unweighted GPA +0.5 for each AP/IB class). That’s on the low end for GT, but not out of the realm of possibility.

What’s really going to hurt you is your math scores. The C and D in a math course plus a 600 Math SAT score combine to send a really bad impression. The B in AP Calc helps, but you need something more substantial to convince Tech that you can pass math classes (Tech is obviously very heavy into math subjects - even non-engineering majors).

In your application, I would really try to stress something to prove that you’re competent at math - whether that’s winning a math competition, having a reference sent in from a math teacher, taking the ACT and doing well in math, etc.

Without that, you’re a pretty far reach for Tech. Sorry.

If you intend to go pre-med, Tech might not be the best choice for you. Tech has really low GPA’s - really low. The average Tech student is 0.4 below the average UGA student just because of the operating philosophy of the schools. That low GPA really hurts in med-school applications.

Alright, thanks

focus on writing a really good essay, sat math may not be high enough and that’s really important to tech especially since so many people have applied this year. i’d say your a low-mid reach factoring in your ‘f’ (if there’s an opportunity to explain this setback on the application take advantage of it!)
