Hi. I was recently accepted to CAS with a very generous financial aid offer (20,000 scholarship). I've also been accepted to a few other schools: JHU, Tufts, WashingtonU in St.L, Cornell. Right now, I know that I want to go somewhere where I can do a traditional CAS discipline (psychology, english, or something...) along with a minor or double major in film. I know this is possible at Cornell and WashU, but what about NYU?

At NYU, I don't think I can take many classes in film at Tisch if I'm not enrolled. Is there a way to cross enroll in NYU schools, or will I have to make a transfer if I decide that film is my calling? Or is it possible to do majors through two schools without a great deal of difficulty?

The only way you can do a double major including film is if you're admitted to Tisch. You can't do it if you're in CAS. This is true of all Tisch majors. You also cannot minor in film from CAS. The only Tisch classes that non-Tischies can take are what are called Open Arts curriculum and they are not the same classes that majors take. You are able to apply for an internal transfer at NYU after completing one full year but internal transfers are rare into Tisch. You would be required to complete the necessary artistic review just as any freshman applicant would, i.e., a portfolio for film.

CAS students can take up to 16 credits outside of CAS, and this includes Stern classes (I'd reccomend ANYONE take a financial/capital markets class in Stern...its invaluable if you want to work on wall st.).

As for the Tisch question, CAS has a Cinema Studies major or minor which is done in Tisch. (also these classes in Tisch don't count toward the 16 outside of CAS).
