In-school writing consultant...EC or other?

My S was asked to be a volunteer writing consultant by the school's English faculty, in the schools Writing Center. He helps other students with their papers for an hour or 2 per week, while school is in session. He did this junior year, and will also do so senior year.

My question is:
Is this appropriately termed an Extra Curricular activity or does it belong to some other category like volunteering, personal, or work? If community means the community outside the school or home, then this activity doesn't seem to be "community service".....and he's certainly not paid, so its not a job. Its not the conventional club, band, or sports team EC either.

I would guess it would be considered community service - I believe tutoring along the same lines is.

i would tend to agree with Kaatu, its a sort of tutoring, maybe interning for the office? still service though, you can put it down.

thanks Kaatu & courtjester....makes some sense

everyone else agree?

If it helps, at my school's Writing Center, the consultants are indeed referred to as tutors, and tutoring is generally considered a volunteer activity, if unpaid.
