Is it possible to get in-state tuition for an out of state school if I currently have a family member attending that same school?
Do your parents reside in the state you want instate status at?
No…you won’t get instate status just because a family member attends an OOS university you want to attend.
You have a first cousin attending Purdue. That won’t help YOU get instate tuition…at all…not at all!
Adding…you are instate for Virginia which has a TON of wonderful instate public universities…at YOUR instate cost.
You got accepted at VT…what’s the matter with that?
@thumper1 Purdue is my top choice; however, is 20,000 more than VT so ideally I would want to see if I can get reduced tution
The smart thing is to do your own dig into what it takes to get resident status, in various states. There are very few magic ways.
Having a cousin at Purdue is NOT going to give you instate status at Purdue.
You are an instate resident of Virginia. If you want to pay instate rates…go to a VA public university.
Either that…or have your parent move to Indiana…where they will need to reside for 12 months prior to your enrollment to establish your instate status. It’s a little late to do that if you plan to enroll in fall 2017.
All of our kids would play that card if we could! Imagine the possibilities.

Uh, no. Do you realize that many people have relatives in a variety of states?
