In-state, non-resident Question

I applied a few weeks ago and recently got an email saying that I was considered a non resident. I live in A2 with my dad and go to school here, but my mom lives elsewhere for work. They said I have to fill out another form by next September if I was accepted, but was wondering if this would affect my admission itself. I believe my stats are good enough to get in (3.9 GPA, 33 ACT, bunch of ECs, etc.) but I was wondering if they would then qualify me as an out of state applicant, which I heard is more difficult to get in. Thanks for any responses

same thing happened to me...but both my parents live and work in Michigan. For me, it was some error in there system. I asked the lady who came to my school for Umich and she said that it won't affect my chances at admission.
