In-State residency for Transfers

Does anyone know how big of a role state residency plays in transfer admissions??

its much like freshman admission. They try to keep 2/3 IS. Which school are you applying to? If you're CAS, you'll be against the transfer agreement with VCCS.

so should i apply to a school other than CAS to raise my chances?? how many out of state applicants do they typically get??

Well, if you apply to other schools you might get in, but then youre stuck there. And if you want to enter CAS for political science, can you see yourself being a mechanical engineer? Or a nurse? Apply to the school you want to get in.
If you want numbers, check out their Historical Data page <a href="http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/historical/admission/trans_by_residency.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/historical/admission/trans_by_residency.htm</a></p>

thanks shoebox, great link.

those numbers dont look as dire as everyone makes them out to be...
i think ill just go for CAS out of state and take my chances.

You'll have a better shot for CAS OOS than any of the other schools. And no, the numbers arn't killer. And i've been talking to a dean from the e-school and he said that average numbers/GPAs do not mean too much since theres a great variety of schools that people are trying to transfer from.
