Chances

How hard is UVA to transfer into OOS?

Right now I am at a comparable school to UVA, but one that has extreme grade deflation so my GPA is good, but not great compared to other schools, I have a 3.0 and I am a freshman.
I am involved in school (political clubs, student government, IM's, etc.) and want to major in political science.

My HS stats were: top 15%, 1330 SATs, lots of ec's, lots of comunity service

Thanks!

what school are you at and what was your specific high school GPA? Also, are you instate?

I'm out of state, and at a very comparable school to UVA (probably a little bit better academically) and i my HS GPA was out of 100% and it was like a 94 (but a 98 the last 2 years).

Your chances probably aren't great if you're at a school comparable to UVA. If you were at a more rigorous school with more talented students (like MIT or Caltech), you'd be in.

What school?

Davidson....

Davidson is a very, very good school and might be a bit more rigorous overall than UVA, but unless you're taking 23 credits/semester of math and science, getting into UVA will be difficult with a 3.0. Personally, I think that it should be a bit easier for people like you (from good schools), but the powers that be in the university would rather open the floodgates for CC transfers with less impressive backgrounds.

Well it would be for 2008 Fall, so I still could get my grades up a bit, is it just really hard to transfer into regardless?

It really depends on this year's admissions results. As Cav said, the University is taking a lot of steps to get cc transfers, but until they release numbers for this year, we won't know how much of the whole transfer acceptance pool they'll make up. I'd say it's worth a shot, particularly with Davidson being such a tough school.

If you can get your GPA up to a 3.3 or 3.4 (definitely possible, especially if you snipe easy humanities courses -- ask around), you will be much more competitive.
