How much does being OOS hurt when applying to state schools? I'm looking at Michigan - Ann Arbor and UVA. I would consider myself a shoe in if I were in state for either of them, but I feel significantly disadvantaged since I'm OOS. I don't want this to become a chance thread so I won't post my stats, but I'm curious how much of a disadvantage being OOS is. If anyone has any insight it would help, thanks.

I think you already know the answer to your own question. It can be a BIG disadvantage at certain schools like Michigan, UVa, UNC Chapel Hill. If you post your stats people will be able to advise you better though. For example, if you are a Valedictorian with 2300 SAT, great EC’s, fabulous essays, etc. you are at less of a disadvantage than someone who’s stats are mid-range for that particular school.
