In the land of a thousand chances...

Props to anybody who knows what the title is from. :-D.
I've posted this in the Search&Selection forum as an add-on to a thread on safeties, so if you see it twice, I apologise!

Okay, here goes:

Here are some stats, sorry if they're a bit long!

I'm a female Senior ('08).

Location: CA, USA
School type: v. competitive public in the Bay Area.

SAT I: CR: 800, M: 760, W: 800 - 2360
SAT II: Math IIC: 720 (retaking?), Bio (M) 750, US History 790
Courses: Hardest courseload; self studied 1 AP Soph year & am going to self-study 1 more this year.

Rank/GPA: School doesn't rank, but at least top 10%; UW ~3.89. 4.0 (UW) junior year, so a bit of a rising trend.
Courses for senior year:
-> Wind Ensemble
-> AP Economics
-> AP Physics C
-> AP AB Calculus
-> AP German (or TA; I'm technically "done" with German)
-> AP English Lit
-> Robotics Team
-> Jazz Ensemble

APs:
Soph - US Government, 4 (self-study); German, 5 (non-native speaker; it was my sophomore year, and 2nd year of German)
Junior - Biology, 5, US History, 5
Senior - Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism, Physics C: Mechanics, AB Calculus, English Language, Comparative Government (self-study)

Essays: Should be good; writing is one of my strengths and the English department is great with reading over essays, etc.

Recs:
Teachers - at least one will be fabulous, and I think I've got another couple great ones I could use
Counselor - very good
Supplemental - v. good; i'll be getting them from my work & maybe from music teachers/conductors/etc?

For summer: Counselor (summer before 11), Assistant Director (summer before 12): this position is usually reserved for college students. I'm going to get a rec from my boss here, which should be great.

And perhaps a few small things I've forgotten.

I'd like to major in International Relations/Political Science/Int'l Studies & Cell Biology/Biochemistry/Molecular Biology.

I've got two lists: American and UK schools. It seems like a ton, but due to the nature of the UK applications, if I'm doing 1, I might as well do them all. If you know anything about UK schools other than "...er...oxbridge is hard?" please comment on my chances!

UK:
Oxford (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics)
St Andrews (Int'l Relations&possibly either Modern History or Philosophy)
LSE (IR)
Warwick (PPE)
Durham (PPE)

US:
Yale (EA)
Princeton
Dartmouth
Williams
Middlebury
Colby
Scripps
Gettysburg
Drew

Chances, please?? Thanks so much!! :)

what school do you go to? im in the "yay area" too, lol.

well your ECs are very nice and varied and you have some really nice standardized test scores and gpa. but as it is for everyone, yale and princeton will be reaches and crapshoots.

Good Luck.

Thanks, ivyleague 04! :).

chibi_loopi: I'd rather not put that info on here, as I feel like there is an awful lot of personal information about me already.

..please don't apply to williams... you'll take my spot... :(

Wow, you're interested in a lot of things wanting to major in so many different areas. You're stats are extremely good teh way they are. Now it just comes down to your essays. Work hard on those and I'm sure you'll be happy come April. :) Good luck!

Way cool, just blew my away. Count on some nifty acceptances next April. Oh, and I daresay the UK schools are very attainable as well, although I don't know squat about UK schools except that the admissions process is completely stats-oriented :)

bump-ish for more opinions?? thanks, you guys. :)

OOPS. I forgot a school.

REAL US LIST:

Yale (EA)
Princeton
Dartmouth
Williams
Middlebury
Colby
Scripps
Gettysburg
Drew
+WELLESLEY. >.<.

bump. sorry. :-p

Stats are very good, and I like your ECs (most people on this board have a laundry list of ECs that everyone does, but you seem to be very committed to yours). Of course Princeton and Yale will be unpredictable, but overall you've got good chances at all your schools.

Add National Merit Semifinalist to that, if it makes a difference at all.

Also, should I retake my SATII math? ...it's been a long time; I don't know that I could do a huge amount better, but if (as it stands) it'll seriously decrease my chances at Y/P/D/W/etc it might be worth it?

Opinions?

anyone got chance %ages for me, or something by school? That'd be infinitely helpful.

please?

...10c.

okay. last time. bump? Please>?

You don't seem to know very well what you want to study. I mean, cell and molecular biology or biochemistry are not really in the same category as philosophy, politics, and economics !

PPE at Oxford in particular is not nearly as math-intensive as pure economics at Cambridge or the LSE. Still, you'll probably need a 5 (or at least a 4) in the AP Calculus exam to get in.

You're most definitely in at Gettysburg, Drew, and Colby. Williams and Middlebury and really competitive, and you have the stats to get in, but you just can never know. Same goes for the ivies. You have a decent chance, but admissions these days seem like such a crapshoot.

Good luck!

I'm sending you a PM : )

I think you have an excellent chance at all the schools you have listed and wouldn't bother with Drew or Gettysburg (unless you love them for some reason).

Also, with all your terrific stats and ECs, don't bother to retake the SAT. I'd love to be at your house next spring!

Warwick almost a definite I figure. Durham and LSE maybes. Oxford PPE is the hardest course in the UK to get into. Which college are you applying to? This will make ALL the difference.
