Both my sons liked the ACT better than the SAT. Both my sons scored slightly higher on the ACT and both did very well on the science section despite not be "sciency" people. They both disliked how long (hours) the SAT was and said it was draining and unreasonable. One son stumbled on the PSAT because he didn't move fast enough on the first section and left a bunch of questions unanswered but once he figured out the pace it showed on his actual ACT. I think it really comes down to a preference.

wow based on present info it looks like i will pwn the ACT ;)

I think the ACT might favor a strong academic curriculum ( "book learning"). The SAT might be better if you haven't had the benefit of that. My D did WAYYY better on the SAT than on the ACT and SAT subject tests.

I THINK ACT material is much EASIER than SAT
but act is more time consuming
they give you like 40 questions for reading and 35 min.
and really short time for english (grammar part)
which means you need to do one problem in a few seconds

SAT IS MORE REASONING STUFF though

i m taking act in june
and i expect to do better. TT

All of the input above is true. Both my brother (8th grade) and I (jr in hs) took both tests once this year. (he is Johns Hopkins Talent search kid) and we both thought the SAT was MUCH easier. I scored a 29 ACT (1920 SAT conversion) and haven't received SAT scores yet (May test). He scored much higher on the SAT than the ACT but he did point out that the ACT is curriculum based and may have led to his lower score due to his current grade in school. It can't really hurt to take each once as my hs college counselor pointed out. I was going to stick with the ACT and just study more but I am glad I tried the SAT as I think my score will be better. Planning on taking my best test one last time next fall.

I think the ACT is much more straightforward while the SAT is a bit trickier. Plus, the SAT tests vocabulary (which I'm not great at) while the ACT tests some easy aspects to grammar like subject-verb agreement.

I think how the test makers make the ACT difficult is through its timing though, like what MiniYoo said. I ran out of time on certain parts of the test the first time I took the ACT.

I really do think that the ACT is more for good students while the SAT is more for good test-takers.
