I was reading on one of the academys' websites that in addition to including the usual letter requesting a nomination (which has name, address, school, etc) you also need a letter. Is this true? If so, what do you put on that seperate letter? Why you want to attend the academy?

You should include a personal letter to your nominating source expressing why you wish to attend the Academy. Your MOC should have a link on their web site stating what they need from you.

is an initial letter requesting a nomination really necessary? I just went ahead and printed off all the nomination forms from my MOC websites without contacting my MOC offices first or requesting any such info. I don't think it really matters much as those forms request all the same info. and have you write a personal essay to state why you want to attend an academy and they also have you get 3 letters of recomendation.

Should I still go ahead and print off the "request for nomination" forms off my candidate resource page to send into my MOC? Or just wait and send in the real app which I should have done before summer, or I might wait till I get back from the summer seminars to send it in so I can write my essays based on SLS.

I'm thinking that if you can just download the application then that's fine, but not all MOC have them on their websites. For example, all of mine...

I live in Northern VA and so I put in nominations for both my state congressman (Wolf) and one of the senators (Warner). Warner's website had the downloadable application so I just filled that out and sent it in. However, for Wolf I had to request the application by sending the letter. The letter itself was pretty simple, had some basic achievements and what I plan to do in the future. I ended up getting nominations from both Wolf and Warner.

I believe if you already filled out a pre-candidate questionare that there is a link on your candidate login screen where you can print out the letters. They are already set up for you.
