My daughter is submitting an optional resume as part of her portfolio for UCLA - can she include her SAT score on the resume if CA schools are test blind? She did really well and would like to include it - if appropriate - but is conflicted.
(I posted this elsewhere on this site earlier - apologies if you’re seeing it twice - I’m new to this!)
She should not include SAT scores since all UC’s are test blind
I would recommend not doing so.
I think if it’s a resume she can include it. However, it will not be evaluated.
I have heard that it will be a negative mark on the application if she attempts to sneak around the system set in place and share the test scores when they explicitly state on the UC App not to submit them.
I think it’s a really bad idea. UC schools have made it clear they do not wish to consider, or be influenced by those scores. In a best case scenario, they simply won’t consider the scores on the resume and she’ll have gained nothing but lost nothing. But, in a worst case scenario, it will look to the admissions committee like she’s trying to get around their policy, and it will be a black mark or negative on her application. Therefore, there’s no upside, and a big downside.
Plus, I think the worst case scenario is more likely here. SAT scores are a weird thing to include on a resume, so their inclusion will likely look like an attempt to get around the policy that UC schools have established around not considering test scores.
Just out of curiosity, what major is your D applying at UCLA that is asking for an optional resume? Assuming it is either a Music/Theater major? If this is the case, talent and experience will be the main consideration, not an SAT score. The UC’s are not allowed to use test scores in their application review, only for course placement so I would highlight her other accomplishments.
