Including legal fees on CSS Special Circumstances?

My father paid several thousand dollars while unemployed this year for bail and legal fees because of a domestic violence charge.

Should I include this under the "Special Circumstances" section of CSS/PROFILE?

Is it alright for me to just say that they were legal fees without explaining the domestic violence charge? (I still live with my father, and am completely financially dependent on him, so I don't know if he'll be okay with me including this information on the form at all. He likes to pretend it doesn't exist.)

Thanks in advance!

Of course you can list them. However, the school does not have to consider them (they probably won’t consider them).

Know that the Profile does some calculation with the numbers in their form. Everything in the Special Circumstances section is text that is passed-through to the college.

In other words, it doesn’t factor into the equation at all.

Thanks guys. I didn’t end up listing them but it was nice to know anyway!

I don’t get why that would be any different than money spent for other things. Probably for the best that you didn’t mention it.
