Income Tax Return and FAFSA?

My parents and I filled out the FAFSA about a month ago before we had our tax return prepared for this year.

2 out of the 5 colleges I applied to (U of I and University of Wisconsin Madison) emailed us and said they will also need a signed copy of our income tax return.

So now, our tax guy got back to us that he has our tax return all set and ready to go, which brings me to my questions:

How should I go about submitting our tax return to my colleges? Should I send it individually to each one or is there a way to submit it to FAFSA which will then distribute it to all of them?

and

Why did only 2 of the colleges I applied to ask for a copy of our income tax return? Do all colleges usually want this? Should I send it to all of the colleges I applied to just as a precaution?

computer…Just went through this and was also surprised that some colleges want the tax returns and others do not. Send them only to the ones that request tax returns. It appears some universities want the verification before making a FA award and others do not. Some ask for them later (after you have decided to attend there).

In terms of how to submit the tax returns, check with the colleges. Some want them faxed. Also, it’s easy to update FAFSA if you log in again into your application. Good luck.
