Income tax returns...

Does anyone know what this is and how to get one?

I think it’s not for us!!!

US citizens fill out one every year in order to show how much they earned and how much they owe in taxes.

Nepalese don’t need to fill out tax returns while still applying to colleges. You may simply state how much you paid in taxes in CSS/Profile and ISFAA. You’d have to fill tax returns once you get here and start working legally and paying taxes.

@trinitian bro…Ani what documents do I need to send to colleges as a part of CSS profile? Is property valuation needed? When are those documents sent?

I never used Property Evaluation at any point of my college application. All you need is a bank statement, stating how much you could possibly pay, and maybe, also the amount you have deposited in the bank. Note that, they need certification of fund that you can pay, not necessarily how much you own or have safe deposit, which is what most people confuse with. CSS profile is all online, there is no hardcopy component to it. Like I said, you estimate the taxes, and they fairly take it to be true as long as the data shows some consistency. However, these might only apply to common app “upper-tier” colleges. I know for a fact that some colleges that you might be able to apply through educational consultancies do/might require documents like property evaluation and such.

Does the bank statement need to show the total contribution for all four years?

I don’t think so. It’s mostly for the next academic year that you’d be entering. Just make sure that the bank statement clearly states that your financial contribution stated is for the next academic year and not for four years. I’ve never seen any bank statement showing contribution for all four years but I might be wrong. Check this out with other people too.

Bank Balance that suffice for a year should be fine. However, you should make sure that you have financial resources to maintain same balance for all four years after all the expenditure for a year from the balance.

So, in the field “Has the student completed an income tax return for the 2013 tax year?” of CSS profile do we enter: “Not required to, and will not file an income tax return”?

Yes. . .

Also, regarding the bank statement, how many months do we need to show?
