I'm from Arizona and I am going to The Ohio State University this coming fall. My grandpa lives in Ohio, and I was wondering if I went to Ohio and got an Ohio license and was put on some of his bills, would I gain residency for my upcoming years? Has anyone done this?

No. Your residency status is based on your parents’ state of residence, not your grandpa’s.

I doubt it.

Residency is based on where your parents live. And, since you’re obviously only going to Ohio to go to school, that usually isn’t the criteria for residency.

You’ll have to look at OSU’s residency rules, but usually what you’re planning on doing won’t work…because your PARENTS aren’t paying taxes there.

See [Ohio Residency for Tuition Purposes](Ohio Tuition for Residency > The Ohio State University)

Nope. If you want instate tuition in Ohio, your parents and you need to move there prior to the start of your senior year in high school. Your grandparents residency in Ohio does NOT matter one bit when it comes to instate status for tuition purposes.

TOSU is a fine school, but why waste your money for OOS when the 'Zonas offer an excellent education as well?
