I'm likely attending Berkeley. Having an issue that I originally applied into Mechanical Engineering and now I wish to do Chemical Engineering instead. I realize this requires a switch from CoE to College of Chemistry.

Is this difficult to do? And what courses should I select freshman year in order to not lose progress in College of Chemistry, if I start out in CoE? I'm unsure if there are any courses for ChemE that I can't take while placed in MechE.

It’s fairly easy as far as I know. You can take any chemistry courses. Go check their website for more info.

In the first semester, chemical engineering majors need Chemistry 4A (not 1A/1AL, and are not exempted from it with AP credit). So you need to enroll in Chemistry 4A if you want to switch to chemical engineering. There is also the required Chemical Engineering 40 course taken by first semester frosh.

Here is the chemical engineering course plan (which may be adjusted if you have applicable AP credit in subjects like math):
[UC Berkeley, College of Chemistry – The Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering](http://chemistry.berkeley.edu/student_info/undergrad_info/degree_programs/cheme_major/index.php)

The mechanical engineering course plan is in here (again, AP credit may adjust some of it):

Try constructing a first semester course list that will allow you to continue either major.
