Incoming freshmen: what dorm are you in?

Hey everyone! I know there are a lot of incoming freshmen that frequent CC so I thought it would be a good idea to see if any of us are in the same dorms.

I'm in Elkton! Where will you guys be living?

My daughter was assigned a double in Ellicot. Anybody have any good info or horror stories about that dorm? I know its one of the few not air conditioned (of course). Its a gemstone dorm, but I hear 2/3 are not (my daughter isn’t). Any experiences are appreciated.

I’m a high-functioning autistic who got a medical professional’s recommendation to get a single. Even then, it wasn’t a guarantee. I got lucky and scored a single in Centreville. Problem is, I’m a College Park Scholar, but I’m in Science, Discovery and the Universe(SDU), and all the other ones are in Cumberland. There are no singles in Cumberland, so I have to put up with kids from four other programs, and go out of my way for SDU meetings.
I’m an early bird, do not party at all, can’t function past 10 PM, and have to practice my mellophone for the marching band. I’d drive the average college kid nuts.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Im a scholars in centreville and don’t care to party either.

I’m in Ellicott and think the only downside is the lack of AC. Other than that, it’s close to the Diner, 251 North, Stamp, the ERC, and all of the STEM buildings, so I’m pretty pleased!
If you’re looking to find out where a whole bunch of people are living, I’d suggest joing the Facebook group for the class of 2016, where dorms are currently a very popular topic. There are also groups for many of the individual dorm buildings.

I’m already in the facebook group and have met a lot of people in Elkton, I just thought it would be interesting to see if any CCers were in my dorm.

FYI, in case you are interested, you can find your exact room on the resident hall page. Use this link to find your residence hall
[Residence Halls and Communities - Department of Resident Life](http://www.resnet.umd.edu/halls.html)
then scroll down to very bottom.

If you click on the very bottom diagram where it says typical traditional floor, it pulls up actual layout in a pop up screen. You will then see a drop-down menu on upper left-hand corner that lets you choose the floor. You can then see where your room is (close to stairs, corner, etc) and the size relative to others on your floor. Since several here have listed Ellicott, I’ll give you that as an example (this is basement layout) so you see what I mean…
[Ellicott Floor 0](http://www.resnet.umd.edu/residence_halls/ellicott/ellicott/floor_plans/Floorplan.asp)

I’m in Ellicott.

Only the bottom 3 floors are solely honors.

A quote from reslife
“After we filled all of our program housing, we then assigned students to Honors or Scholars housing. 2/3 of the building is not in Gemstone, so most of the students are regular non-program students.”

Well, I’m not an incoming freshman, I’ll be a second semester freshman this semester. Last semester I was in Cecil Hall. This semester, I was going to be assigned a room in Easton, (Denton Community), but I kept bugging the resnet people about reassignment and I was able to score a room in Allegany Hall.

I have a couple friends in Ellicott so I got a brief look around. I wouldn’t think Ellicott and Elkton are that much different except that Elkton has full A/C. In Ellicott, I saw that there was one elevator that I was told to have some problems. So more likely you have to hike your way up to your room. Hopefully you have a room on a lower floor. The lounge on the 1st floor was really nice, 10x better than Cecil’s lounge. It had lots of room, couches, tv, working space, and A/C. I don’t think it would be too bad to live there.

When I visited the 251 north, I saw people from Elkton having a party, so I’m sure you’ll have fun there.

BTW, what does “CC” stand for? It wouldn’t make sense for it to stand for Cambridge Community because Elkton is in the Denton Community.

Elkton doesn’t have full AC yet, they’re installing it and expect it to be operational by fall 2013. and CC is college confidential haha

oh, I thought for sure it was air conditioned. Now that I look back at Elkton’s page, the description says “Easton” in it. I think it is a typo. And “college confidential”, duh, I should have known. lol

hey Mario,
i’'m also in SDU but my roommate pulled me into his dorm in Chestertown. Don’t worry all cumberland is in the cambridge community so it’s very close by to your dorm and mine.
