Incoming Transfer - Couldn't complete UC RECIPROCITY

Hi there! I'm an incoming transfer student from UCR. I'm having trouble understanding how transfer courses work. I wasn't able to complete UC Reciprocity on time. I will be in Sixth College. On my orientation module, it says I will have to complete all of UCSD's general ed, if I don't have UC Reciprocity completed.

They couldn't possibly have me start over completely, right? There are several courses that have an equivalent articulated on assist.org (such as calculus and english classes). I have over 100 units of UCR courses, and am four classes away from reciprocity (will be completing two more of them during this summer before transfer, but cannot complete all four). Will those general ed classes not count? Will I really have to start all over?

No, you do not need to start all over. Once school starts and Sixth gets your transcript, they will put the courses you took at UCR on your degree audit. You will have to take any remaining general ed courses that Sixth does not accept for transfer, and any classes you did not take yet. You probably will have to take the spring quarter of the writing requirement (CAT 3), but hopefully the english you took at UCR will exempt you from the first two quarters. I hope many/most of those 100 units transfer for you. My daughter was a transfer to 6th last year and most of the GE transferred (exception CAT 3). Now her major classes and major department… well… that is another more frustrating story.
