Hi. I'm going to be moving in as a transfer student a week from today on the 24th at around 9AM. I'm living in Butler Hall. Thing is I'm really worried that I won't be around other transfers and might just have been thrown into a returning students or first year student dorm. The reason I think this is because I had heard Phelps and Irby were the transfer dorms. I applied for both but I got Butler. I also just received my housing information today which is really late and I don't have a roommate. Basically I want to know if there is anyone else in Butler that is a transfer student or if you know that there are plenty of other transfer students in Butler. If I am on my own hahahahha I'm really screwed because it would suck to be detached from all the other transfers and not have any real way to meet others at least initially. And also I'm on the 8th floor of Butler I believe if that helps. Also any information on club baseball (like when it starts, first meeting etc.) would be cool. Thanks and I'm crossing my fingers that I'm not the only transfer in Butler.

theres a bunch of events for transfers im sure youll meet some people dont worry

Hi TB. The RAs have their assignments, so you could try e-mailing HRL and asking to be put in touch with your RA on Butler 8. Then you could ask questions of him/her (??) and get better information about what to expect, perhaps. If you express your concerns directly to HRL people, you might get a good response. I've found people at all levels at Tulane to be very responsive.

My best to you.

TulaneBostonian,

I'm a tulane student. I'll be a senior in the fall and I'm on the Orientation Planning Team. Anyways, Tulane doesn't really have a "transfer dorm." The transfers get placed in many dorms on campus. Also, don't worry about being the only upperclassmen in Butler. I'm pretty sure that some upperclassmen have been placed there.

By now, you should know about our Transfer Student Ice Cream Social to be held on move-in day. See you there!

TulaneBostonian,

This is a link to Butler Facebook ... I think if you look through rooming assignment discussion thread you will find that it appears a lot of transfer students are assigned to Butler..

Boston - You won't be the only upperclassman in Butler, and it wouldn't be hard to meet people even if you were! Good luck in your studies at Tulane.

Regardless of who your room- and floor-mates are, three weeks into the semester you'll wonder why you even asked this question. Speaking from both my own experience quite a few (ahem) years ago (at another U) and D's more recent experience (as a freshman at Tulane), you'll quickly find like-minded friends well beyond those in your immediate physical proximity.

You can take a couple of steps that will increase your chances of integrating: join folks you recognize for meals, go out in the evenings together, form study groups with others in your classes, join a club or other activity...people are, generally, pretty open if you take a couple of simple steps to reach out.

It's actually not a bad thing being in a freshman dorm as a transfer. You're a doe-eyed transfer and their doe-eyed freshman. Both of you guys are new to tulane and looking for friends. This way you'll be friends with the transfers (you'll surely meet them through the orientation events) and also with others!

I believe everyone on the 7th & 8th floors in Butler are transfer students (7th girls, 8th guys)...& I believe all of the rooms are dbl occupancy...I'm on the 8th floor also.

Then you guys have it made!!

LIke, MADE. When I transferred to Brown, most transfers were in a central location, but scattered througout the many dorms here nonetheless (there are WAY more dorms here than at Tulane). (I was not in said central location, which was kind of a bummer). But being ALL together AND being able to meet freshman? Especially honors freshman (if Butler is still the honors dorm, that is)? that's the perfect equation. Booyah for you.
