My daughter received her test booklet back from the PSAT a few weeks ago and randomly decided to look it over yesterday.
When she compared it to her score sheet, 3 answers in a row were marked incorrect even though in her test booklet she had those 3 questions marked correctly.
She swears up and down that she checked repeatedly and did not bubble them incorrectly and is very upset now after seeing that she quite possibly could have had a higher score. It did seem odd that it was 3 in a row, all of varied difficulty.
My question is this- how likely is it that her test was indeed graded incorrectly? Does this happen?
The probability of a human filling in the wrong bubble is much greater than an OMR machine mis-reading a correctly filled in bubble.
There have been many “it must be wrong, I’me sure I did better, I’m paying for hand-scoring” threads here over the years. I don’t recall ever seeing a “my score went up after re-scoring” thread.
Having said that, it’s not impossible. Here is a discussion on the topic - http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/2166623-can-i-appeal-my-psat-score.html
Thanks so much for your reply, and I agree! Chances are she made an error, and it was a ‘practice’ test anyway. Just curious about the chances of it happening. I’m sure she will get over it and it teaches her to be extra careful when it comes to the real test.
