Does anyone have any tips for the ACT? I took it back in February and got a 22...

I've been doing SAT prep for the past two months and I just took the test today. I'm retaking the ACT in June.

I feel as if I can transfer what I learned from the SAT prep to the ACT prep. Right? And I think the only differences are the science section and the timing...

I have one month and I'm aiming for a 30+

There are several threads within this sub-forum that offer advice to others who are looking to increase their scores. Try sifting through them and see what you can find out. :)

8 points will be tough

Yes, I do think the 8 will be hard, but I can transfer what I learned from the SAT tutoring to the ACT right? It’s almost the same material. I only really need to practice my science and timing…

I don’t think it’s almost the same material… my scores for the first time on each greatly differed.

With science, my strategy had two parts: For one, make sure you spend ONLY five minutes on each passage (that includes reading the info, analyzing the data, and answering the questions to the best of your ability). Try to answer all questions; if there is one that you do not know, skip it for now, and move on. After five minutes, force yourself to move on to the next one. Secondly, the passages become increasingly difficult throughout the section. Passage 7 is hardest, 1 is the easiest. My strategy is to start at the end, with passage #7, so that as you are becoming more crunched for time, you are proceeding into the easier passages. It keeps your momentum going faster and faster, and your pace is more brisk and at least for me, it made for a situation where I could do really well. If you finish with time left, go back to the ones you skipped and depending on how much time you have, and either figure it out or make an educated guess.

What were your scores for each section, so that we can see where you can make the most gains?

Are you practicing, taking tests from a review book (I recommend the official Red Book)?

20 Reading
25 Math
21 Writing
20 Science (I think)

Before my ACT back in February, I took a practice one and got a 22. I think I’m more knowledgeable now I can get a score in the mid-high 20s, thought I want a 30+.

I have the Red Book, and I used it to study. I’m going over it again and my tests are all marked up with answers. I’m deciding whether or not to buy another copy of it.

Maybe I just had a bad morning…if I remember correctly, I think I gave up halfway through the test and started bubbling in answers…that and I think I ran out of time.
