Increasing my chances of getting in ED?

I am really considering applying early decision to Tulane. One of my family members went there and is part of the alumni association if that means anything(?). I really like Tulane but my stats are a little lower than the norm.I have a 3.5 and by the time I graduate I will have taken 2 AP classes.I am only doing one this year but my guidance counselor told me my schedule is pretty challenging.I took the sat for the first time in may.I got 600 on reading and 700 on math and took it again in june so hopefully my scores increased.I’m probably going to take it again in october if I can i wasn’t sure what the regulations were for early decision.I am unable to visit because I will be away for a month in the summer. What do you think my chances are and what can I do to better those chances?

Apply ED or EA (obviously), spend time on the “Why Tulane” supplement, show interest (figure out who your regional admissions rep is and introduce yourself and establish a dialogue)

I raised my score on the sat to a 1400 which should help.Idk what to say to my admissions rep I dont really have any questions but I want to show that I am interested in Tulane.

They just announced the schedule of Tulane visits in different cities. Is there one near you?

There is one but it is an hour away and in the middle of the school week so I don’t know if my dad would let me go but I will ask him and hopefully he will think it is a good idea.

He should. Tell him this is as important as any homework. This is your college admission, and Tulane values interest quite highly. Having said that, since ED is a lock-in commitment, barring financial issues, everything else is not nearly as important as it used to be. Still, you certainly want to be strong with your essays, and getting into the school vibe is a very positive thing. Besides, I assume the session is at 7:00? If so, it will be over by about 8:15 or so and you could be home by 9:30. Not that late.

The one we went to when our son decided to apply to Tulane was over 2 hours away. It was worth the drive! We had a nice dinner and went to the info session. It was very informative and he made a great connection with his admin rep and continued to keep in touch with her throughout the admissions process.
