incredulous at my financial aid

So i guess most people already got a estimated financial aid.

I saw my today and the loans only covered about like 5% of my need. lol
I am out of state by the way.

Does UCLA not like to give alot of money to students, especially out of state?

with the cali financial crisis. no!
UCLA is giving out like no money at all (i heard)
i got a full ride for 4 years, but thats all my regents scholarship.

sucks that u get no aid though!

no pell grants or anything? :/

The UCs usually give no financial aid to out of staters.

i mean, the state of california is nearly going bankrupt!
why WOULDN"T they meet ALL YOUR NEED???hmmm??? :P

UW doesn't give money to OOS'ers either. Washington state actually subsidizes in-state student for about $2500/person for tuition so it keep the tuition down around $6800. Great for in-state, bad for OOS. California barely has the money to give to it's own in-state people unless you are low income. UCLA estimated costs have gone from $19000 in 2004 when my son started there to approx. $26400 in state this year with my third child being accepted. That is almost a estimated $7000 a year increase which to me is huge! I have found over the years that actual costs actually come out to be a little higher than the schools estimates.

I'm OOS and got 16k in university grants and 2500 in workstudy at UCR

$16k i grants is the max that they will give to instate students (with a zero efc), so that's the max they offer to OOS students. But, then few publics offer a lot of need-based aid to OOS'ers.

my EFC is 2341

pinkprincess,

unless you're in financial need, regents will not be giving you a full ride...especially not anymore.

UCR is being very generous to you....though you may not see it that way.

Oh I know they are.
I was just putting it out there.

UCR has no choice, who in their right mind would pay $45K/yr to go there?

People. people, people....if you are going to apply to a OOS public school it would behoove you to do a little research on how your state of choice is doing financially before you get your hopes dashed.

The public universities in CA are increasing their OOS admittees in the hopes that some of those are willing to pay the big $$ and help off set the dwindling public finds available to in-state students. Hmmm, go figure.

Yeah, unfortunately, California's kind of in a bankruptcy fiasco. So, generally that means no money for out-of-staters, and probably less money for in-staters. :-(

...btw, OP, you read HxH? :)

one reason you probably got in is because UCs need money from out of staters. Also Californians have to pay the taxes for the UCs so why should we subsidize a great amount for out of staters?

"UCR has no choice, who in their right mind would pay $45K/yr to go there? "

ROFL!

$0 in aid......... no work study, loans or anything either oos

how do you check your financial aid?

my friend got approximately $7000 less in grants (based on need) from UCLA, compared to UCSD. yikes

Yeah, I'm OOS, and UCLA covered all my need... in loans. which are the last resort in paying for college for me. and i really have to want to go there.

I dunno why I didn't expect it, given Cali's financial crisis as you guys have pointed out. I guess I was just used to the generous awards offered by private universities in Cali (stanford, usc).
