independent research

i am looking into doing some independent research in something in psychology...for independent research do you basically research and then write a paper of it? how long does the paper have to be?

I have a similar question as well. If I am doing independent research in, say history or some other subject, where would I submit papers? What type of journals out there publish research papers done by high school students?

yes, like what would make it "official" or wutever? considering it is independent..

Same here. I want to SOME kind of research in psychology, but I don't even know where to start...

oh goodness, does anyone hav any answers...i think i'm doing smt. with schizophrenia maybe...

bumppp im interested as well....anyone??

is doing independent research unpopular in high school? i really need to know, cuz i wanna start soon..

no, it's not. i think doing research is a wonderful thing and I'm going to do a reearch project in speech pathology this summer in a university under a professor (it was a summer program).
and u should start on it, though i don' tknow too much about psychology.

where should i start? besides picking the topic..

let me explain my situation better..so in my school, everyone in their junior yr writes a "research paper" however, i am skipping that and going to ap lit instead..but i feel lik i should do some type of research in high school..so i was wondering if it would be worth it to do it independently during this summer...

if you want examples of psychology research papers go to scholar.google.com and search for something related to what you want. You may have to do a bit of searching though, before finding a paper you don't have to pay for.

A good way to start is just by reading a lot of papers and maybe do a slight variation of what someone else did or try to locate problems in the field that researchers talk about in their papers. Maybe you'll see something in someone's research paper that you can do better...then try doing that. So...basically reading a ton is a good way to start.

the way you publish a paper is to submit it for peer review at a professional journal (if its good enough). I don't know of any places that just publish stuff of high schoolers.
