Hey, my school has AP World and AP US... I am currently in World, but don't want to take US... because lets face it... it's boring. (haha)

Okay... so, I am thinking of independent studying AP European with a couple other kids... how should I go about this? Do we need a teacher to sponsor us or what?

Just to clarify, you want to independently study AP US history?

You don’t need to be under the guidance of or sponsored by a teacher to take an AP exam. The only time you even need to tell anyone that you’re self-studying for an exam is when you send in the $86 check to your school.

However, it would help with learning the material if you get a teacher to agree to help you out every now and then, maybe even loan a state textbook. It’s up to you and how you want to study, though.

Earning school credit for self-studying is a whole other matter, although I’d be inclined to believe that in most cases, administration will not give credits for self-study. You would definitely need to speak with a teacher and administration if you want to receive school credit in this way.
