Independent Study

Is it true that adcoms look down upon independent study?

I'm taking the maximum amount of classes at my school (6) and I really wanted to take psychology before graduating. My district offers a few classes independent study so I bought the books/workbooks/guide from my district to study Psych independently for credit. It's not AP or honors or anything, but then again it's on my own time so I don't see how that'd necessarily hurt me...?

Anyway, as I've not completed it yet (I do it at leisure, not to make a deadline or anything), should I put it down as a senior year course?

I'm taking independent study French this year, but mainly because I took AP French last year and there were no classes left to take. I have an actual period set aside for French, meet with my advisor once a week, etc. It's not as challenging as AP Physics, which I was originally going to take, but I didn't want to lose a whole year a French before college. Not sure if this applies to Psych, though, since it's not as if you've exhausted every other course your HS offers.
