We are visiting Pomona on an official visit on a Saturday in a few weeks. While there, we’d like to check out 1-2 of the other Claremont colleges, but their tour times conflict with our scheduled visit at Pomona. We are only in LA for that Sat/Sun, so no option to do this otherwise. How does one document this on the common app? Do we just include “college visit” (there doesn’t seem to be a spot for unscheduled visit). Does the visit only “count” for admissions purposes if it is official?
If they have a “Why College X” essay, mention it there. We managed to fit in 2 tours of Claremont colleges on a Saturday – can you get to campus a little earlier and do that? They are right next to each other-- 10 minute walk between admissions, no need to move the car. You could easily do a 9:00 at one school and 11 at another. (Or 11 and 1). You can always loop back to walk around the first school later in the day, too. My kid did Pomona & Mudd that way. We didn’t do the info sessions (tend to be repetitive & info you can find in the web anyway).
@intparent UGH! We can’t do an earlier one b/c flight gets in at 9 AM. I’m going to look at the apps for the others and see if there’s a Why X? question. That would help. I’m actually wondering if we could do the tour at Pomona and the info session at one of the others. Would that be a reasonable solution? Which one to do at Pomona and which at second choice (right now Claremont but Pitzer is sounding like it might be a better fit…to me, at least).
Of the five Claremont colleges, it looks like Harvey Mudd and Pitzer are the two that consider level of applicant’s interest (see their collegedata.com entries), so having a recorded visit or info session may be the most help at those schools.
