India?

By chance, has anyone studied abroad or traveled extensively throughout India? I have studied in Europe, but I would like to study in a more exotic area which is less accessible. I would study in either Jaipur or Delhi. I am mainly concerned with health issues, in light of the vaccines required. I understand this is not the US or continental EU.....

Also, I have no experience with Hindi at all....?!?!?

Any thoughts or insight?

As long as you’re in the big cities, you should get along fine with English. Most schools in India teach in English, so most of the younger crowd can speak English fluently (or nearly fluently). Also, Delhi is pretty diverse.

In terms of health issues, common sense prevails. Get ALL the immunizations that your doctor recommends (iirc, you’re going to need the heps, malaria, typhoid, tetanus, and a couple others if you don’t have them already). Don’t eat street food, whatever you do. Residents will and might tell you to, but trust me - you haven’t built up the immunity to it your entire life and you will get sick if you eat it. Try to drink bottled water as much as you can, just to be safe.

As long as you use your common sense, you should be fine. Delhi is a huge, bustling city, not some little village. If, in the worst case, you DO get sick, don’t fret. There are plenty of great hospitals around that will take very good care of you.

Hope you have fun in India!

Youre gonna be in Delhi not some village so dont worry about language…and be very careful with street food…if ur gonna buy street food make sure its hot cooked food…itll be an experince if you go haha

You might get a few more responses in the India subforum.
