Study in India

<p>DD will be studying Hindi language in Jaipur, India this fall.
I would appreciate any tips and advice regarding both pre departure and her stay while there. Thanks in advance.</p>

<p>Well, what would like to know about India? We’re here to help you out :)</p>

<p>Dress code, medical care, going out at night, safety, money, etc. Also, what would be the best way to arrange for weekend travel? Should she rely on travel agents and organized tours or just travel on her?</p>

<p>Dress Code -
Is she joining a school or she’s coming here as a part of a program? Different schools have different dress codes.</p>

<p>I can’t comment about other topics since I don’t know too much about Jaipur.
It’s a very good cosmo, well-developed city to live in and like every other place in Rajasthan, amazing to travel to (loads and loads of tourists visit Jaipur and nearby places).</p>

<p>I’m sure you must’ve seen this but I’m providing the link anyway-
[Jaipur</a> - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](<a href=“http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaipur]Jaipur”>Jaipur - Wikipedia)</p>

<p>Jaipur is mainly warm, so she’ll want to bring light clothing. However, it can get slightly chilly in the evenings, so a light jacket would be a good idea (Of course, I suppose the chill would be nothing after American winters). There’s no restriction on wearing anything, you can get away with a halter if you wish in broad daylight, and the place attracts many tourists. I would advice on dressing slightly more conservatively if she’s out alone.
Is she coming for a year? I would say around $2000 should more than suffice if she’s not paying for living.
Dunno much about safety, but Delhi where I live, is quite an unsafe city and once you are in a group, you’ll be safe late at night. I don’t think Jaipur has a very active nightlife, so going out after 12 would probably be unsafe.
Weekend travel, meaning within India for pleasure trips? I’m not fully sure. There are websites such as makemytrip.com where you get very good holiday packages at attractive prices, but a travel agent might help in the way of choosing a good reputed place to put up. I advise her to use a well reputed one though.
For travel, I would caution you that being a foreigner, she will be viewed as one to be easily fleeced when using public transport like an autorickshaw. In such cases I suggest that she emphasize the use of the “Meter” which gives you the standardised rates. You might have to pay up a few tenners extra still though. I advise your daughjter to learn how the meter rates work, both in taxis and autorickshaws.
For medical care, I suggest you just rely upon the big names in the city (i dunno much about hospitals in jaipur)</p>

<p>I wish your daughter best of luck and the city is indeed very beautiful and full of history, so i am sure she will enjoy herself there.</p>
