I am an indian studying in India… I would like to know how tough it is to get into MIT and stuff… i’ve heard stuff like GP weights and all which dont exist here, although SAT is… which I will be writing in some time, my cousin found it easy and he managed to get 800 in math.
I would like know what i need to get into MIT or any other “ivy league” college in the US.

thats ok.. i think i am pretty competitive, but what do i need, apart from high SAT scores,, i do have a good co-curricular activity record... but apart from that.. there is no weight system (something like GPs....) here, apart from the Class XII scores which are out 500 including 5 subject of 100 marks each... does that count?

Honestly, as an international from India, you probably need to have international accolades in order to get into MIT. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that it’s the most competitive US school for international admissions.

You would need to be a truly top student of a national level in India. MIT and the ivies get an overwhelming number of applicants from India and will each only take a few. The competition will have perfect/near perfect scores on all parts of the SATs, they will be the very top students in their school/region/country. They will have won international competitions and have significant accomplishments outside of the classroom.

When you get below MIT and HYPS, there’s a little more breathing room. At the other ivies you still need to be exceptional and for any top 25 college, especially if you are looking for any financial aid, you need to be at least at the very top of your school.
