Hate to be honest, don’t expect acceptances from anywhere other than Purdue. But Purdue for sure, probably scholarship too
Purdue doesn’t offer scholarships to int’l undergrads. @CoffeeProphecy
@potatoheadhala Mann Thank you so much >:D<
I never imagined I would be accepted to such an amazing school! I almost enrolled at my safety school Tulane out of sheer frustration but fate obviously had something better in store for me.
Perhaps the adcoms deemed my LGBT service appreciable. Perhaps they liked my essays enough to ignore the mediocrity of my test scores (2170 SAT). Whatever it was, I’m grateful. At this point, I’m only waiting for my Harvard and Yale results. I thought my chances would be low everywhere, but I’m glad I was wrong.
@ShaunakK98 I support the argument that Individuals need to be realistic with their options. However, we do not know the OP’s context. Nor do we know the narrative he formulated in his application, or the goals he wants to achieve. My stats were similar to his but the rest of my application was fairly strong. I too thought my chances were minimal but I was wrong. Lol this rhymes nicely like a birdsong. am I wrong?
Haha ok. So here’s the thing. @CoffeeProphecy Don’t lose hope. you might be lucky but like shauna said, don’t pin your hopes on the elite institutes either.
And @ShaunakK98 did you apply to Yale NUS?
@rahuilmars231 Probably. But my main assertion is that colleges highly value a level of English proficiency in an applicant, which is certainly missing both in Coffee’s post and his/her English scores. This is very concerning, and it’s really heartbreaking to have expectations, only to be brutally broken.
And nope I didn’t apply
@ShaunakK98
I don’t think Writing scores really measure one’s English proficiency. I had a 650 in Writing on my SAT. But I honestly believe I can write well - my essays were good too.
What I can’t do very well is write an essay in 25 minutes, and I struggled with grammar rules too - hence the 650.
@potatoheadhala It’s a combination of W And CR I’m talking about. Plus, the poster’s TOEFL isn’t that great too
@ShaunakK98
Agreed. But Duke is still a possibility.
Columbia is too.
Well I’d just say I’d be highly highly surprised if either happen
Anything is possible
@ShaunakK98 Lol you are funny. So what according to you is a great toefl score? 220 out of 120? anything above a 100 is considered good. Highly qualified applicants’ Toefl scores hover around 110 most of the time. I just got 109. Toefl is no biggie. Its just a dumb english proficiency test that plays absolutely no role in the process once certain thresholds are crossed. come on man. You’re such a highly qualified applicant who’s already gotten into great schools. Don’t discourage mate.
@rahuilmars231 Well I don’t know much about TOEFL, sorry…all I know is that most of my friends got 115+ so I considered that as a benchmark. I must be mistaken.
Either way, I don’t mean to discourage. I sincerely hope that the poster gets into amazing universities of his/her choice. I’m just speaking realistically.
Also, do you happen to be a member of TGID?
@rahulimars231 and @ShaunakK98 I think @Shaunakk is right a score of 115 is pretty standard . I mean a person with decent English skills can score around 115 . It may not speak a lot about his selection but it may play a role during the college essays. But still everyone should apply and try their lucks so that they don’t regret it later.
@ShaunakK98 that’s nice of you to say
Its just that the admissions period is such a tense time for everyone. And people can get even more mentally damaged and desolate if we discourage them when they’re technically on the same boat as us. Trust me, I’ve been discouraged too many times and it is not exactly healthy mentally.
And I dunno what TGID is. I’m just a small town kid who can be a little ignorant when contemporary fads or phenomena come into play. 8-X what is it?
@rahuilmars231 I’ve PMed you.
And yeah I guess I’ve been too harsh. In fact I’m a huge believer of the fact that if you feel you have any chance at all, you should apply. Coffee, I wish you the best of luck and really apologize.
Accepted to Duke
Nah thats ok, i knew my chances of getting the elite US colleges is minimal
But i really want to know my chances of NUS, the thing is, im writing the State Boards, and for people who write the state boards, it is mandatory to send SAT scores as the primary judgement scores, they probably dont care much about my state marks, and i can send my Mains rank too, which im estimating to be around 2000.
@CoffeeProphecy A friend of mine current studies and NTU. 96% in the boards, 1800 rank in JEE, 2180 SAT, decent ECs. Sounds pretty much exactly like you!
I feel really out of place here lol with all the budding engineers hehe. But, congratulations to you all! I’ve applied only to few all women’s Liberal Arts Colleges and have been accepted at Mount Holyoke College, Simmons College, Hollins University and Agnes Scott in their honor programs too! Got lots of ECs and great grades and passionate about writing (written a book and published in another). Just wondering if there are any people actually looking at Liberal Arts colleges from India and specifically the ones I mentioned.
