I think more than 100 per year get into Cox. Their enrollment is over 1,300. I think they only offer 100 BBA Scholars per year.
I wouldn’t worry too much about their ranking drop. I think they get a lot of OOS students that apply to Cox. Covid played a role in kids accepting. We’re from PA. My S20 took it off his list because we couldn’t visit. It was a tough choice declining the BBA Scholar opportunity.
Tsbna44 - thanks again for the great perspective Re: BS v MBA and work experience for MBA! Point yourself in the right directions and go! I need to stop overthinking this!
I’m the king of over thinking - my daughter chose a “lesser” - I need to stop saying that - school.
It’s four years - gotta go with it.
Really your son needs to decide - if he really wants Miami, going in - I don’t want to say second class - but that’s how it seems - does that work? He can work in the Fall or go to a CC. Or does another school work? Or would he want to get into AZ - easy app - then go visit - and might that work? Or other schools still taking apps.
Whatever you do, love your decision - and it will work out great. In 20 years, he’ll be where he’s supposed to be regardless.
Tristatecoog,
Son & I need to get more details on SMU non- COX options if even a realistic consideration.
Re Miami - the school is very much - “accept us by 5/1 but we don’t want to hear from you until second semester.” Not super welcoming. There is a Spring Semester UMiami College Confidential thread I need to spend more time on.
It seems to me that the only real choices are Indiana Kelley and TCU Neeley.
For Miami, Spring admit is basically admitting he’s not up to par for Fall (they don’t have space for him in thr Fall but they think he could succeed so he’ll fill the space left by the few freshmen who transfer or drop out at the end of December). However, Fall is when freshmen bond and find their sealegs. And it doesn’t sound like they’ve planned anything for the gap semester to offset that.
SMU without his major is dicey. Is he even interested in EMIS? Would he have access to the Cox career services and fairs?
That leaves Indiana Kelley and TCU. They’re different enough that he should have a preference?
Btw, I agree wrt the (direct after BBA MBA" they’re only worthwhile after you have some professional experience. They function as a combination of networking and specific content that’s only useful after you’ve experienced what they’re about and that’s why a “direct” MBA doesn’t garner much if any “bonus”. The exception would be if you got a BA or BS in something entirely non business related and didnt have internships where you could show how your skills apply to the business world, but a certificate would likely be less expensive and as useful. Better yet, focus on those internships and transferable skills while in college.
MYOS1634 - Excellent perspectives - Thank you! IU and TCU are different enough however the one he likes doesn’t have the warm weather that the other has!
Called SMU Cox today and appears you can submit an appeal to your Cox decline. We may try that route and see what happens. Otherwise, if no Cox admission than no Career services and fairs as you said, only the general career services office. Major advanced risk for a full price tag. Doesn’t make too much sense - approaching the “crazy town” level.
We need a long talk with him sooner rather than later.
