I get the anxiety here but remember a few things about big school admissions and IU specifically:
This is “early action” not full on admissions.
IU does not provide merit with these decisions and they are not concerned if your high stat kid might have otherwise fallen in love because in most cases your high stat kid also applied to 20 other schools and probably isn’t attending IU anyway.
A high percentage of people who post on here post about their high stat kids. Also you are seeing a lot of early action admits being Kelley direct auto admit which means pretty high stat.
It stinks to read admissions is happening and you don’t see your decision. IU and any other big school is looking at 10,000 applications with 50,000 more to come, it’s not thinking about anything nearly as granular as we do when we only care about our own individual student. Patience. Trust the Process.
Most, but not all. My kid applied to 8, and IU is in her top 6. My point was what’s the point of rushing the roll out that was due weeks later (and could’ve had complete admissions info, which I thought they were prioritizing this year) if not to get them excited ab IU.
Wasn’t directed at you or anyone specific. The point of admissions now is mostly to allow kids not to have to apply RD elsewhere if they like IU which for a lot of schools is 12/15. They’ll focus on excitement driving in February and March when they believe they draw ROI from those who fill out SSA etc… They are well aware 75% of admits will attend somewhere else. IU is simply not that many high stat kids top top choice today and they are ok maybe losing a few. As all big state schools are. They know kids really ED/EA and early merit focused are going to get that attention they desire from private schools. And if those students do not receive the attention they hoped they’ll come around to IU in late winter/early spring.
I get wanting to have info out mid-December (which is when the IU admissions people at the NYC basketball event said admissions decisions would come). Confused ab why Dec 1 instead of ducks more in a row 2 wks later
The fact they started releasing decisions 2 weeks earlier than they expected, and that it was a relatively accelerated move-up of that release timetable, should tell you the ducks were not going to be rowing in unison in mid-December.
Has anyone ever heard of an error for Kelley DA? Daughter applied early (September) and was just short of the SAT. Retook it in October, got new score Mid October meeting the requirement. She emailed them and sounded like she was all set (and updated everything as instructed), but her acceptance email says pre-business. She had initially filled out the petition since she wasn’t sure she would get the required score…so not sure if that was the issue. She has emailed them, but hasn’t heard back. Frustrating to have to wait for a petition request when she truly did meet the criteria and updated everything by 11/1. Seems like a clerical error. Maybe they had already reviewed her application by then. That’s all I can think of!
Teddy24, IU doesn’t work like Villanova! Many large public universities might admit a student, but not necessarily to their requested school or major. It’s not just IU. UMD is the same. Long ago, I left UMD because I couldn’t get into to their architecture school after freshman year, so I left. Went to Pratt. And I can say having a son at IU, you can still do a minor in business, or other business related fields in different ‘schools’ at IU.
Indianagirl90, I’m not sure if I’d call it a clerical error. They have thousands of kid’s applying. Than petitions as well. I certainly wouldn’t want to be in admissions. They say all decisions will be out by Jan 15. Last year there was a huge waitlist even for those ‘qualified’ for DA. Those did not get released until April.
How do we respond to a certain comment on this thread without it just being the thread? Not a secret comment, just commenting on what someone might have said a day or so ago?!
I think the website just adds all replies to the bottom of the thread. You have to look at the arrow to see what someone is replying to. Hard to follow sometimes lol!
This was from 3 years ago when my older son applied. Last year merit came later after admission as well. In this link for this year it states scholarships start coming out mid-Dec.
Daughter applied 9/18. Stats qualify her for direct admit to Kelley, but the school does not print the GPA on the transcript, so I suspect she will be bumped for review. I will appreciate knowing when others hear back.
