Hi, I am planning to apply for Indiana University. I really wanna go to kelly but unfortunately I am far bellow the standard for acceptance. My question is, in order to apply for kelly through standard admission, which school in the IU campus should I go to for freshmen year? The application offers college of arts and sciences, college of arts and sciences/spea, labor studies, public health, school of education, school of global and international studies, school of informatics and computing, school of nursing, school of public and environmental affairs, school of social work, the media school, university division, university division-liberal studies
bump
Are you far below the standard for direct admission, or admission to IU-Bloomington? If you can get into IU Bloomington, go there and try to gain admission into Kelley after your freshman year.
@iubaccounting i understand and thats what i am planning to do. however, as i mentioned, i don’t know which school campus i should apply to.
If you want to go to Kelley, go to Bloomington
Apply to both IUB and IUPUI and put a business discipline as your intended major. Both are Kelley and good schools. The entrance criteria is higher at IUB. IUPUI (Kelley Indianapolis) would serve as your safety.
IUB Kelley is the best of the Kelley’s as far as recruiters are concerned. Other campuses do have a Kelley school, and they do go over the same coursework, however the quality of student will be better at IUB due to the higher entrance requirements, and a lot of college growth and education is dependent on learning from your peers around you.
The only 2 campuses of the Kelley School of Business are located in Bloomington and Indianapolis.
For example IPFW is the Dohrmer school ( actually a pretty good business school) and IUSB is called Leighton School. NOT the same as the Kelley School.
Both Kelley campuses have a 93% placement rate after graduation. The most important stat.
IUB has higher entrance requirements. It’s also true that early in the curriculum students might be of higher quality in aggregate at IUB because of these requirements.
However, after the barrage of 200 level difficult courses, The herd is culled at both campuses. The cream rises to the top and there is cream both places.

Again, please apply to both campuses so that you have options. Both have Kelley, and a standard admit pathway.
Guys, OP is asking what school at IU Bloomington he should apply to. You should apply to university division. It really doesn’t matter for getting accepted to Kelley after freshman year.
@hkem123 In order to apply for Kelley thru standard admit, I have to take business courses during my freshmen year. If I apply to university division, would I have a chance to take those courses? In another word, can I choose my courses for freshmen year after I get accepted into university division? Thanks.
When you apply. Just indicate a Business discipline as your intended couse of study. If you are a standard admit you will know it from the application response and be placed in the University division. Once you establish a log-in ID and have been accepted you can then review a degree “map” to help you choose your classes. Also, make contact with an advisor early on to help with classes or move to another school if Kelley isnt a good fit.
There are some good resources such as thisforum and Rate my Prefessor that can hlp along the way.
@Goodkidsdad I don’t think I can indicated a Business discipline in my application unless if I apply for Kelly.
Lofty
Apply for Kelley on IUB app, get accepted for UD, take Kelley app prereqs, get in Soph year.
With few exceptions, it doesnt matter what school you are in Freshman year when you register for classes. Some classes are reserved for DAs, some for Hutton, etc.
BTW, Apply to Bloomington if you want the top experience at a flagship university. IUPUI is not the same Kelley and recruiters know it. IUPUI Kelley Honors even has much lower standards, so they are certainly not the same. As someone who worked hard to get into IUB Kelley Honors, I find that fact quite revealing.
I just spoke to a recruiter last week in an internship interview thru Kelley and they weren’t even visiting IUPUI. Recruiters and jobs are why you attend a top business school, so keep that in mind.
@IUBOOS so you are saying that even if I apply for Kelley, it wouldn’t lower my chance of getting into the university?
Correct.
University admissions comes first, Kelley second.
Anyone who gets into IU can apply to get into Kelley no matter how low their stats coming in to the university. Sure its tougher than being a DA, but its a clean slate once you start at IU.
Just work hard, take tough prereq classes in summer before you get here and you stand a decent chance.
@IUBOOS thanks for your help!
My son just interviewed with a company that isn’t going to IUB.
Everything that IUBOOS says is correct. Except the part about recruitment. They just recruit at IUB at a more National scale. Most of the kids at Indianapolis are Midwestern so recruiters visit accordingly.
Not making a comparative here. But if you really want a Kelley degree at least take the extra 15 minutes to apply to both. Both are really good schools. At least you will know the options.
If Bloomington is your hearts desire. Then go for it. You will be fine. Awesome school!
@Goodkidsdad Thanks for your advice! I will apply to both schools
Goodkidsdad
Huh? I am most certainly not wrong about recruitment at IUB vs IUPUI. Any company that bypasses IUB for IUPUI is a serious anomaly. The reverse is quite common.
I see from your postings that you are quite the IUPUI fanboy and seem to delight in baiting IUB people. I think I’ll pass on the bait this time.
To be sure, anyone can secure a good internship/job while attending any school, but it’s clear that the top companies are visiting Bloomington in droves. IUPUI? Not so much…
As they say, it is what it is.
Kelley Indianapolis is just an option that makes sense for some kids. I am a huge IUB fanboy too. I went there.
I agree that that recruitment at IUB is incomparable. But it is different than some other smaller schools. That was my point.
This is aN IUB thread so let’s just say that there is really nothing better in the Midwest than a Kelley degree.
I know we can agree or at least respectfully debate that.
Please re read your comment #12. Cream rises to the top everywhere. Not taking your bait either.
