@IUBOOS My daughter is a senior in Kelley Honors at IUB so I understand the challenges and rewards of the program. Pride in one’s school is expected; however arrogance and belittling others only reflects poorly on you.
@wistfulthinking Whoa!! Ease up there parental unit.
I belittled no one, but just pointed out facts about IUB/IUPUI and one guys posting history, so spare me your condescending remarks. You dropped into this thread at the 11th hour without any previous posts here and attacked me without adding any value to the conversation - why? How does that reflect on you?
Moreover, I suggest you ask your daughter if she thinks IUPUI Kelley and IUB Kelley are equal in recruiting or anything else? I already know the answer.
If parents want to be proud of their kids and cheer for a school in a public forum, great, but just get the facts straight and leave your emotions at the door.
The standards for IUPUI Kelley Business Honors admissions standards ARE LOWER and less recruiters show up at IUPUI. Those are facts.
The OP deserves to know this as they make their college choices.
If you or anyone else wants to correct errors of fact in my postings, you are welcome. Otherwise, keep your ad hominem remarks to yourself please.
@IUBOOS, OP said:
“Hi, I am planning to apply for Indiana University. I really wanna go to kelly but unfortunately I am far bellow the standard for acceptance. My question is, in order to apply for kelly through standard admission, which school in the IU campus should I go to for freshmen year? The application offers college of arts and sciences, college of arts and sciences/spea, labor studies, public health, school of education, school of global and international studies, school of informatics and computing, school of nursing, school of public and environmental affairs, school of social work, the media school, university division, university division-liberal studies.”
Respectfully, the OP was seeking sound advice about options for a Kelley degree though they thought they were reaching or needing to work through UD. One option is to go through UD for either campus. And that was discussed on this thread. Since the entrance criteria is lower (as you say) they might have a clearer pathway at Kelley Indianapolis, which was a suggestion. Not a comparison!
You should be proud of your entrance into Kelley and the Honors program. But, not everyone has that starting point. Just not sure that bashing Kelley Indianapolis helps the OP when it might be his salvation…or not. But at least the option should be pursued. That was my point.
Chill out please, and be supportive. Or not…
@IUBOOS I apologize for offending you. My feedback was intended as constructive but after re-reading it I can appreciate it coming across snarky. For clarification, my remark about “arrogance and belittling” was with regard to your comments regarding IUPUI not Goodkidsdad. Kelley IUB is a great school but there are lots of other good business schools whose graduates you might end up working alongside. My advice was to be aware of how your comments come across to others.
@wistfullthinking …Thanks
@goodkidsdad The OP has already thanked me for my contributions here and I sought no advice from you, so I refer you to the last line of post #21.
@IUBOOS. I appreciate your pride in your school. It’s gratifying.
Ad hominem remarks notwithstanding.
lmao thank you guys for your replies, i dont want to turn this thread into an argument. By the way, is it easy to transfer from IUPUI’s kelley to Bloomington’s kelly?
Lofty:
No worries, you will need to just take prerequisites up to and including the 200 level classes. Some of the Junior level classes do not credit over in either direction. My advise would be to work with counselors from day one no matter which campus you choose. Until you get where you want to go. But you might just end up where you start anyway.
In summary, if you do well at either campus you are golden. Just take ICORE where you want to end up. AND work with advisers.
As far as the arguments go, no one has really argued about the quality of a Kelley degree. Just some earnest advocates. Which is really a good thing. Collective narcissism is actually positive (and self affirming) as long as a wider view is expressed and believed as well. We all have a similar view at some point in our life, All good and respected.
Both campuses of Kelley are very good places to be. Both have a 93% placement rate, which is the most important stat of all. You cant go wrong.
does anyone know the deadline for iupui? is there early action for it? i can’t seem to find the answer on their website
Lofty, it sounds like you are considering transferring from IUPUI Kelley to IUB Kelley at some point in the future. The information on transferring from IUPUI Kelley to IUB Kelley provided in post #27 is wrong.
You can’t just transfer from IUPUI Kelley to IUB Kelley. You must first transfer from IUPUI to IUB University Division and then fulfill the requirements for “current IU students” to apply for IUB Kelley. Transfer students, for Kelley admission purposes, are students who have started their “college education somewhere other than IU Bloomington.” IUPUI is obviously not IU Bloomington.
You should study the admission requirements for IUB Kelley. The last thing you should do if you are thinking of applying to IUB Kelley after transferring from IUPUI Kelley is “to just take prerequisites up to and including the 200 level classes”, as goodkidsdad recommends in post #27. You are required to take a number of classes on the IUB campus in order to apply as a transfer student to IUB Kelley, and you don’t want to retake the same classes that helped get you into IUPUI Kelley all over again on the IUB campus in order to apply to IUB Kelley. You would be wasting up to an entire semester’s worth of tuition if you did that.

Lofty,
Follow btomp’s advise. He is solid with the ins and outs of these topics.

Looks like it is November 1 to be considered for maximum scholarship and May 1 for regular admission.
Hi, I have been admitted to IUB, but did not make it for Kelley DA. I am contemplating whether or not to accept the offer and try for Standard Admission. Few questions about options if I am not able to get minimum all Bs or in my first year:
- Is it an option to re-take only those subjects till I get a B and apply again for the next semester?
- Will I be able to transfer my credits and apply to a different college?
- What is the common path forward for those who fail to get in via Standard Admision, in terms of academic plan?
Thanks in advance.
- Not really an option. Anything less than a B on your transcript at IU will disqualify you from Kelley Standard Admit even if retaken for better grade. IU lets you replace grades by retaking, but Kelley averages the 2 for their GPA purposes, hence you'd still be below a B for the retaken class. Just to be realistic, if you can't manage B's or better prior to applying to Kelley, you are unlikely to be successful in Kelley later on.
- IU credits will almost always transfer for credit since it's a major university, but they may not count toward a degree requirement elsewhere. I can't imagine any 100 or 200 level IU class not counting somewhere else.
3, The common path (I have heard) is for folks denied by Kelley to turn toward SPEA. SPEA people like to joke that they get many of the same jobs as Kelley folks after graduation without working as hard. SPEA is rated #1 or #2 in the nation for Public Affairs. Check it out.
In all cases, you could also just major in something else and pursue a business minor at Kelley. Lots of IU General Studies and SPEA people take that path.
In the meantime, focus on the general fit of IU for you while making your decision. If IU is a great fit you’ll be more likely to settle in and work hard your first year while pursuing admission to Kelley.
IUBOOS, Thank you very much.
How hard is it to get into kelley after freshmen year
I would really appreciate some advice here. I got into Bloomington, but I’m not a Kelley DA. My ACT is 31, and my cumulative GPA is 3.76 (I took a major hit in Junior year, got 3.27). I have petitioned DA.
How hard are the courses in the first year at IU, in case my petition is unsuccessful? And is it worth trying to get into Kelley after Freshman year?
I’ll bet your petition gets accepted. You can also send them mid-year Senior year grades if they improve your GPA.
Read the numerous forum posts for more data on how hard Freshman year is for standard admits. There are strategies for keeping your GPA high and avoiding the weed-out classes like A-100, Finite, etc…
Yes, it’s worth it to try to get into Kelley as a standard admit.
A relative was recently accepted DA to Kelley, AFTER he initially applied with less than a 3.8 and less than 30 ACT. He retook the ACT, and sent in mid-year senior grades after he pulled his gpa up to 3.8. He was admitted into Kelley in the summer between high school graduation and fall…
It looks like all you need to do is pull up your gpa a bit… As soon as you hit the 3.8, petition for direct admit. Even if it’s after second semester. Also, call the Kelley school directly with any concerns.
My nephew says it is better to go in direct admit to Kelley, that it’s more difficult and more competition to try and be admitted from IU’s CAS.
I am a senior in high school. I am an international student residing in US and I am from a non-English speaking household. My current US accomplishments include: I am currently ranked one in my senior class. I am enrolled in IB diploma program, and my current unweighted GPA is a 4.0.I am the vice-president of the entire student council and Key Club. I earned a 28 in my ACT. I feel it is important to note that I achieved a 30 in Math and 31 in reading, 28 in science and 29 in writing. The average of my score is 29.50, and ACT would round it to 30 for the four subjects. However, then came the daunting English portion of the ACT on which I scored 24 which unfortunately brought my cumulative score down. I am a non-native English speaker, and ACT English sections more of a practiced language section than analytical thinking. English is usually mastered through years of practice speaking and listening constantly. This proves difficult for a person coming from a non-English speaking household as I do.
I got accepted to IU recently and because I scored a 28 I cannot get a direct admission. Therefore, I filed a petition to Kelly as I have a 4.0 GPA. Will I get accepted to Kelley direct admit?
Thank you for your reply.
@kunkun29 Nobody knows for sure but you got a shot
