Indiana University Reputation?

Is Indiana recognized as a good school for anything other than the business school and music school? Is it worth it for an out-of-stater to attend? Money is not an issue, since all of my school are the same cost.

Thanks.

Also very solid in most liberal arts.

Are they superior in the liberal arts to a school such as University of Delaware. How is there J School?

Their journalism school is school is all-right, and probably suffice. But, if you want to be in Indiana, you should really check out Ball State. I went to their J-day, and they are really top notch in that department, loads ahead of where IU is. The Letterman building (David Letterman is an alumni) has the biggest green screen/room in the U.S. If you’re going into journalism I’d pick BSU way over IU. BUT, if you really do wanna go to IU… their journalism department would do just fine. I don’t know if their journalism is worth out of state though.

Agree with gigglebot,

I’m going to be a freshman at IU this fall and a lot of the special attention from the administration is given to the B-School and Jacobs Music School. I’m in B-School, but if I was seeking anything journalism there’s probably better places. IU is great, but you could find a better journalism school.

A little smaller than IU, Mizzou has a very reputable journalism school and has the same spirit as IU. Not a Big 10, but it’s decent. Journalism is one of the strongest programs, so lots of attention is given.

Journaism at IU is excellent and the rest of Mizzu sucks compared to IU.

Mizzou and IU seem like comparable institutions.

You might also consider Ohio University which I understand has a good reputation for journalism and has generous scholarships for out of state students with good SAT/ACT scores.

Out of all the schools mentioned on this thread, they all have great J-schools. (Except Delaware…I don’t think they even have a major in journalism, just a minor.)

If all the schools mentioned are out of state, I’d recommend Ohio U because as AlbionGirl said, scholarships and good J-school.
