Hey everyone, I'm an Indian guy from California and I'm seriously considering SMU. I go to a prep school with mostly white people so I'm comfortable, but a lot of my friends are Indian and I was wondering if SMU has a good Indian population. Also, I would want to rush a frat seeing as how that's a huge deal at SMU and it interests me but would being Indian hurt me? I don't think there would be racism or anything in this day and age but you never know, and I know how traditional frats could be. I think I would find my place at SMU even though it lacks racial diversity but I don't know about the fraternities. If anyone has any thoughts on this I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Hey bigboy27! I am a current student at SMU and am also involved in Greek Life here (though as I’m a girl I’m in a sorority, hah). You really have some great questions!

First, in response to your question about the Indian population at SMU, our Indian students are actually very active on campus. If you are interested, you can join ISA (Indian Students Organization) which puts on lots of notable campus events, such as Diwali, R2B2, and the ISA Talent show.

In regards to the whole frat thing, I really doesn’t matter at all. My own sorority has quite a few Indian girls actually, and rushing a frat doesn’t depend on your skin color, ethnicity, or nationality, it depends on who you get along with and where you’d fit in best, so no need to worry at all!
