Hello!
For some context, I’m applying to some boarding schools as a new sophomore. Though I wouldn’t be opposed to repeating, I’ve been advised against it because of my age–I turn 18 the August before senior year and if I repeated, I would be turning 19. So, though it’s unlikely, I would still like to indicate that I am still willing to repeat a year just in case there isn’t space for new sophomores, I would fit in better with freshmen, etc. I’ve noticed that on the Gateway applications, there is space to do this whether it’s the Candidate Profile or individual applications.
However, I haven’t been able to find a way to mention this in my SAO application. Does anyone have advice for how I might be able to do this?
Thanks!
Hi ,@mondaydevil
I would suggest contacting the schools you’re applying to directly, if there is no option on the SAO to indicate that you’re considering repeating.
@mondaydevil, I agree with @metsfan5150. Contact your schools directly (or if you have not interviewed yet, mention it during the interview). Also, DS knew many people who were 19 as seniors. It isn’t that uncommon, although most of them were athletes.
I’m not sure about indicating you would fit in better with freshman…just because of the connotation. But being willing to repeat as a freshman to take full advantage of the BS opportunities, etc would be a plus. Also, explain all you’ve learned from last year and stress how much attending BS means to you and what you are willing to do to experience it.
GOOD LUCK!
@metsfan5150 and @buuzn03, thank you so much!! I’ll contact them directly. Do you know if they keep record of the information sent to them through emails? I assume they do but it feels like a more temporary way to send information their way if you know what I mean.
I would think once they got the email, they would make a note in your file. There were a few schools that we did this with for DS when he applied; he applied for 9th, but noted he would entertain repeating 8th. (that narrows down which schools pretty well, LOL)

Chiming in that adding emailed info to the application seems very common. We had some explanations on DD coursework last year and AO’s just had us email them and they all wrote back: great thanks! will include in her file.
