So, I'm pretty sure that industrial design is for me and I'm looking to start doing some college visits and tours. Currently I'm looking at GA Tech, Auburn, Clemson, and NC State (due to proximity to home). Are there any other schools in the southeast that I'm overlooking? Also, what other schools (within a 12-14 hour drive from Atlanta) are worth looking into?

Also, how is SCAD? I’ve heard some mixed opinions on it (from people who didn’t attend, just based on word of mouth) and I’m wondering what’s really the truth.

Check out the Core77 Schools Forum for a more focused discussion of ID programs. [Core77.com • View forum - students and schools](<a href=“students and schools - Core77 Discussion Boards”>students and schools - Core77 Discussion Boards)

I have heard good things about both GA Tech and SCAD’s programs. Is VA Tech in your distance range? That’s another to consider if it is.

Without question check out:
University of Cincinatti- good price, great co-op program, very well respected and widely considered among top in world
Art Center College of Design- rigorous program, great reputation, good alumni network and widely considered among the top in the world.
Cleveland Institute of Art- relatively cheap, caring faculty, stresses profesionalism, visiting instructors from Detroit.
College for Creative Studies- highly networked into auto industry.
Columbus College of Art and Design- great value for the money program
Academy of Art College- up and coming program
Pratt- In New York, stresses artistic side of design and has great reputation.
GA Tech: Very good reputation for combining art and the technical aspects of design.
SCAD: Don’t know much about their program.
RIT: Strong combination of design and technical training.
RISD: Good reputation, but don’t know much about their program. Isn’t generally as well known as others mentioned above in ID.
OTIS School of Design: Known for toy design but also offers product design.

I’ll look into VA Tech; the distance is a little far, but it isn’t as far as some of the other schools I’m reading about for ID. And I will ready through that forum!

Thanks taxguy for that list. Very informative.

So upon looking further, does Clemson even have an ID program anymore?
