Info from last year

In regards to the phone calls. More people DO NOT get calls… PLEASE DO NOT let this discourage you. In fact of all my friends waiting for a call, exactly ZERO received one… even the URMs. So do not let this add to the anxiety of the college app season.

That being said, some of my friends got waitlisted (they increased people on the waitlist). If you are in engineering, cs or biology consider that people applying for these majors have very high GPA’s and ACT/SAT scores. You are competing with the best and most people have higher than the UCSD “average”. I was surprised that some of my friends with incredible grades and scores with lots of AP did not get in initially. However, a number of them were eventually offered admission. So please know that this may be a strong possibility as well. SO know if your status says waitlisted you still have a chance!

UCSD offers admission on many factors and you CAN NOT know your chances. Don’t have someone tell you what your chance is. They do not know any better.

Please also know they have to offer admission to out of state and international students (Who Pay More) in order to meet the budget. So if you are from California, your stats may have to be significantly higher than someone from out of state. Do not compare yourself to others who post on this forum for this reason alone.

I remember how stressful it was waiting. Just take a deep breath and know there is a perfect school for you all. Hopefully UCSD… but if not there is another perfect school for you. A few of my friends ended up at USC and Cal Poly among others.

Best wishes everyone!
