Info on Florida International University (FIU)

Here is a brief description of FIU for everyone interested.

Florida International University (FIU) is a public research university located in Miami, Florida, well-known for its architecture, business, engineering, hospitality management, and law programs. FIU is the fifth-largest university in Florida and the thirteenth-largest university in the United States. As of Fall 2006, total enrollment was 39,500 students with 2,974 full-time faculty, and more than 150,500 alumni. The university comprises 27 separate colleges and schools that offer 205 programs of study with more than 280 majors.

FIU emphasizes research as a major component of its mission, with sponsored research funding for 2005-2006 totaling $92 million. FIU is ranked as a Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive University in the High Research Activity category of the Carnegie Foundation's prestigious classification system. FIU is also the youngest university to be awarded a Phi Beta Kappa chapter, by the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the country's oldest and most distinguished academic honor society. FIU is one of only 78 universities nationwide to hold both designations.

FIU is ranked among the top 100 public national universities in the U.S. News & World Report's annual guide to "America's Best Colleges." FIU was the youngest institution in that group. U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" (2006 and 2007) also ranks FIU's undergraduate international business programs 7th best in the nation and the Chapman Graduate School of Business among the top 20 business schools in the United States. In 2007, the College of Law achieved a 94% passing rate, the highest in the state of Florida, while being the youngest law school in the country.

This recognition comes as the academic quality of the university improves and its admissions rates become more selective. Admission standards have also increased with acceptance rates dropping greatly from 63.2% for Fall 2005 to 42.8% for Fall 2006. The average incoming freshmen had a SAT score of 1131, a 24 ACT score and a 3.64 high school GPA.

That info is pulled straight off the Wikipedia site, which is edited by a guy who loads it with POV (point of view), a violation of Wikipedia guidelines.

For instance, there is no documentation to support the assertion that FIU is "well-known for architecture" except that the guy believes that to be true.

If you try to change it, this person undoes the changes and shrugs it off as "defeating vandalism".

FIU is definitely not "well-known" for law... how could it be? That law school is only a couple of years old. The assertion is ludicrous.

Furthermore, the line about "this recognition comes as the academic quality of the university improves" was stolen almost verbatim from the Wikipedia page on UCF. "Dropping greatly" from 63.2 to 42.8 is another POV statement.

So I don't have a problem with FIU, just that information because it's misleading.

This is dumb

I love it when people from FIU and FAU argue about which one is cooler.
