I live in North Dakota and have never seen a winter void of snow, I am very interested in heading off to florida and FIU is a school I have applied to. I know very little about FIU and would love to know a few things such as: Its prestige, How floridians view it, East coast reputation and job opportunities.

I also ask you to chance me at FIU
SAT-800 CR, 380 Math, 800 Writing
Rank-Top 1%, #3

RI,

FIU is not widely known outside of the state of Florida, so as far as “prestige” it hard to judge; U.S. News (a starting point) has it as a fourth tier school. FIU is one of the “directional” state universities set up in the fifties and sixties to help educate a growing Florida population. Regarding academic rigor, support to students, diversity, etc., I consider it (as a Floridian) behind UMiami (private), UF, Rollins (private), FSU, UCF, and USF. It is on par with FAU, and ahead of UWF, UNF and FGCU. It is in Miami, so this campus has a Latin culture you wouldn’t find at, say, UWF (more Alabama culture there) and International Business is one of their promoted majors. The campus itself is pretty nice, however, it is a commuter school for a large part of the student body.

I think you have a good chance of getting in, though your low math score and no reported GPA does give me some pause.
