Information on High Point University

What is High Point like?
from a student prospective or anyone who has a son/daughter that goes there.
I was recently accepted into High Point and won't be able to visit till march.
Just want some general information like academics, greek life, tuition, campus life and etc....
High Point and Furman University are my top two colleges

Congratulations on being accepted! That’s no small deal!

High Point University is certainly a stellar institution! I’m currently a junior here and after being exposed to this environment of excellence I know if I have a goal, and if I set my mind to it I can achieve anything…and YOU can too. By becoming a student at High Point University you’re committing to four years of learning, growth, and professionalism inside and outside of the classroom. As a student you will have access to innovators, experiential learning, community service opportunities, leadership roles, etc. Your professors will know your name and genuinely care about your future. I saw a professor yesterday from last semester and she called me by name. Oh, and last Tuesday Dr. Qubein (HPU president) came in the cafe and ate breakfast with me for 20+ minutes. Over 100 student organizations on campus. Phenomenal housing. Values-based living and learning. Holistic education. Tuition is around $40,000 and that includes everything (yes everything), except books. Campus is about 35% Greek, and you can be just as successful and happy whether you’re in Greek life or not. Campus life is awesome! Everyone is always happy, caring and positive.

Let me know if you have anymore questions! Cruise around on our website. Hope to see you in March!

Thanks for the information,I am really excited.

Danila18, take a look at HPU’s financials before you send in a deposit. If you aren’t sure how to read them, ask someone who can. Study statistics that are based on fact, not on marketing. There are many non-profit sites that track things like student loan default, graduation rates, etc. If almost half a class doesn’t graduate on time in 4 years, something is amiss. Furman’s four year grad rate is 82%, a huge difference. This tells us that either HPU is not supporting students academically or not providing enough aid consistently throughout the four years to enable students to graduate. Use objective data to help you decide not marketing tools.

Danila18, following on the earlier post, I just took a look at the National Center for Education Statistics website where you can use their College Navigator to compare HPU with Furman. Here is what I found: At Furman, 88% of freshmen return for sophomore year, at HPU it is 75%. At Furman 79% of students graduate in 4 years, at HPU it is 50%. At Furman, 2.3% of graduates are in default on their student loans, at HPU it is 14.1%. HPU might still be a good match for you but as the earlier post said you should make sure your decision is not based just on marketing.

I narrowed down my list to High Point and USC- Upstate ( in south carolina). I’m visiting High Point on the 15th and USC- Upstate the 7th of march. I think i’m going to stay instate though.

Thanks for the advice.
