Information

can anyone give me some perspective on the programs at fairfield? i'm interested in history and international studies with a possible economics minor.

thanx

Can someone please compare Fordham University with Fairfield( other than the fact that they are both Jesuit schools........is Fairfield Jesuit or Catholic, not sure)

I read that upperclassmen have residences on the beach. And that students spend alot of time hanging out there and beach parties etc. True?

also, how are relations with school and surrounding community, I read not so good. Any thoughts on this?

How are academics, particularly English, humanities? And Art Dept? Graphic or web design?

Beginning to be curious about Fairfield...anyone who attends or is familiar....what can you tell me?

Luliztee, I'll be starting this fall as a freshman. Upperclassmen can rent houses, and some rent houses on the beach. I visited a friend of mine who graduated this year last december, and he lived on the beach. I think they had an awesome time there. I'll def. look into it when I am a junior. As for your questions regarding the relations with the surrounding community, and academics, i can't help you.

Fairfield is a Jesuit school, by the way. Let me know if you have any other questions. Where are you from, and how old are you ?

do you know where i can find campus pictures? i cant find any on the official site.

Lars- I'm the mom of the a daughter who is interested in learning more of Fairfield.

We will be looking at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, and possibly others in CT such as Connecticut College, and as real real reaches only may stop by Yale and Wesleyan if we have time.

I had seen something of Mitchell College in New London and also of Albertus Magnus in New Haven, perhaps we would visit these if we have time too.

What can any CT students or CT natives tell me about these schools, Compare Contrast? Any info of academics in regrd to Writing and the arts and liberal arts? Photography? Resident/student/campus life? Any schools that I missed that you would reccomend?

Thanks

Luliztee,

I'm sorry, I don't think I can jelp you with anything else, as I am not a Ct native. In fact, I'm not an American; I'm Norwegian. And, I'm studying Finance, so I'm sorry but that's about all I could help you with.

As fot you, Smile06, maybe you can find some on campusdirt.com or sites like that. It has comments on the campus, which by the way is divine.

Mitchell is more of a career school, and Albertus Magnus is usually the butt of many a joke. Look at Trinity as a reach, and consider the University of New Haven as a possible match if Quinnipiac and Fairfield are being considered.

I can tell you that Fairfield is a great school and has a really happy student body, from everything I've heard. My sister-in-law's father is a professor there and is very happy.

does fairfield give good financial aid?

Has anyone found pictures yet?

Not much, but I knew I had these on a saved site. I'm from CT and I agree Albertus isn't held in high regard, but a lot of adults I know go back to get their masters there. Univ.of New Haven is known for it's forensic department and is a decent safety for a lot of students in our area. Quinnipiac is better and has a much prettier campus. Trinity, of course is excellent, but in a bad neighborhood. A lot of drinking goes on there (big surprise) but 3 students I knew told me, which isn't very many, they thought it was too much for them. They felt "left out". Maybe it would be different with someone else, but that was the small sample I knew. Conn College is very expensive and not that generous with aid. It can't hurt to try, but if you need help, don't put all your hope in that.Fairfield isn't rated as well, but I know many students from my son's school that got what they felt was a good, solid, education. You have to find your niche and again, they have their share of preppy, rich kids, but not as much as others. If it's a fit, Wesleyan is a great school. They have a lot of diversity and things to do on campus, but it isn't a school to go into blind. My husbands' brother thought when he went there, there wasn't a thing they wouldn't protest about! He had a hard first year, then enjoyed it.
Not much to offer, but if I see any more pics, I'll post them.

to anyone that wanted more pics of Fairfield, there is a dorm site that has pictures of dorms and adjacent rooms:
http://www.dormtours.net/school_dorm.asp?scid=46&doid=46
There are other colleges too, but not a lot.

Thanks for the pics. I thought I never would find any.

the question was fairfield vs fordham:
fordham is much stronger academically....and while you are just starting, do not overlook the alumni from each....alums can, and do, mentor and help fellow grads get their start....fordham has a huge allumni that are very supportive-and well networked- in Manhattan, stamford, phili, etc....great resourse for internships!
suggest narrowing your search down to 3-5 schools and then doing an "overnight stay" at each...worth the time and effort..and will definately help you decide on where you feel comfortable!

i already asked this question but does fairfield give a decent amount of financial aid?

Smile06, if you go to the Xap site I listed above and hit the cost and financial aid info under Fairfield (on the right)it gives you a breakdown of the aid and amount of students, etc. The one family that told me about their aid, (he was a school administrator, wife a secretary), the amount was enough to squeek by for them, but not overly generous. If it matters to anyone, she was female and not a URM.

does fairfield offer need-based grants? mainly grants from the school itself or grants for out of state students.
