Informational or evaluative -- What's the difference?

I still don't quite grasp the difference between informational and evaluative interviews. Can anyone clear this up?

Anyone out there?

Anyone? Bueller?

An informative interview is one that anyone can call and set up. You will have a one-on-one conversation with an admissions officer. You can ask questions about the school, etc. They may ask you questions to determine your fit or eligibility for certain things, but it is basically time for YOU to learn. While they might make comments in your file, they are not much of a part in admissions.

An evaluative interview, however, normally takes place after you have sent in your application. They will ask you more questions and determine why they should admit you to the school. This has a bigger effect on your admission, because it is a time for them to learn about you and what you would bring to the school. You can, of course, ask questions too (it makes you look more interested).

Hope this helped a little.

For instance (IMO) most alumni interviews tend to be informative, while scholarship interviews are evaluatitive.
