I am planning on being a Pre-Health student and right now I am not sure what the best fit for me is.
I thought that Haverford was the school for me until I visited Connecticut College today (my safety school). I was very impressed by Career Office and internship opportunities around the country and the world that Conn offers. I am worried that I will be Haverford will be very hard for me and that I will not have balance (I have attended an all-girls boarding school for high school and have had no balance). I am also worried that I will not be able to keep up with the rigor of the science classes at Haverford and thereby not be able to go on to medical school. Essentially, I would love to be reassured that balance does exist at Haverford.

Any input would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance.

FWIW we spent a day at Haverford last month and spoke with 5 or 6 different students in the admissions office. My sense was that it’s not a pressure cooker. They work hard but are also fully engaged in the offerings of the Haverford community. So they’re busy and they work hard but still have fun.

I think you are worrying yourself too much. If you’ve been attending a rigorous private school with advanced level courses, you should do fine at either place. And while Haverford is considered slightly more rigorous than Connecticut and often makes the Princeton Review’s top ten list for ‘Students who study the most’, the Haverford freshman retention rate (96%) is HIGHER than Connecticut’s (90%).

Lastly, since your nickname is @hopkinsbound and you want to go to med school, Haverford is good preparation for med school. Seeking an easier path and dreaming of a med school like Hopkins don’t align well. All in all, don’t worry as much. If you were accepted, it means the adcom evaluated your credentials and are confident you will succeed, that’s why you were admitted. Whichever you choose, you will be fine. CC is also a good school.
