Insane Amount of Apps?? 10+

So, is anybody else here applying to 10 or more colleges? Or am I just mildly insane? I'm seriously considering applying to (if not all, definitely most) dartmouth, cornell, williams, amherst, swarthmore, middlebury, bowdoin, vassar, wesleyan, tufts, oberlin, smith, northeastern, and rpi. In other words, supplements will rule my life... Haha, so much for my Thanksgiving VACATION. Any similar sentiments out there?

I personally think 9 is a good amount of colleges to apply to. The more options, the merrier. Just try to enjoy the essays, that REALLY helps you focus on the positive side of all this nonsense. Best of luck and HAPPY THANKSGIVING. gobble gobble

Ten is a lot, but not a whole lot. On the college admissions forum, there's a poll asking how many colleges you applied to. A good third of those polled applied to ten or more schools.

Don't worry about it. If you can't make up your mind and are willing to go the distance, then go with all of them.

11, may consider 1-2 more if I have time.
I consider myself a veteran essay by now (that's what takes the most time), and they are frustrating and enjoyable at the same time

I'm applying to 10 schools. Its pretty expensive.

10 apps is about average at some schools :)

16 schools...

I don't understand why people apply to that many colleges...I applied to 5 and I'm pretty happy with the amount I applied to...can't imagine how much trouble it is with applying to 10+ schools in the long run

12, and I think I'm insane.

I'll probably be applying to 8-10, just for financial reasons. I want to have about 3 reaches that meet 100% need, preferably without loans, and 5 safeties that will cost me next to nothing to attend. This will be the only way my parents will let me go to a 4-year university, so it has to cost very little.

ill have probably 15-20
i thought being a recruited athlete would make the process a lot easier, but i was wrong

I know someone who just applied to 16.

I'd say go for it only if you can make each application as good as you can. If applying to too many will cause the quality of the apps to go down, then eliminate some.

i'm appplying to 12 places, i don't think it's that insane. i am low income and have need a lot of fin aid. luckily for me i have app fee waivers so i don't have to pay a crazy amount of money to apply to places.

D applied to 5 on common app + 1 for UC + 1 for USC. It's best to focus on the schools that really matter to you.

10 doesn't seem inordinate. I applied to 7 last year, but the average amount of schools applied to for my class (discounting those who got in ED) was ten. As long as you're financially able to do it and could see yourself realistically going to all of the schools on your list, I'd say you're fine.

haha I am applying to lot more than 10 but yeah I am an international student seeking aid so its a completely different case...

Good reasons to apply to a large number of schools:
1. The need to compare a large number of aid packages.
2. Increasing the number of reach schools to increase the chances of getting into at least one of them.
Bad reasons to apply to a large number of schools:
1. Failing to to do adequate research to find schools that actually fit.
2. Just for the heck of it--i.e., to see if you'll get in, even if you don't want to go there.

im applying to 11. thankfully, 7 of them accept the commonapp.
however, the uc application is making things very bad...

I'm applying to 17/18. :(

->Aid Packages
->Reaches
->Overly-pessimistic

Yeah, I'm applying to so many just because I really don't know what schools would be matches or reaches, and believe me I've done the research...SO we'll see what happens...
