insecurities.

Am I just here hanging alone, or has anyone else ever thought/think that they will not get into college?

I'm a sophomore as of now, and I applied for my junior year classes, and I have no honors classes at all. My strong subject is math, but I'm taking precalc, and at my school, precalc itself is supposed to be an honors class, hence there's no precalc honors. I applied for APUSH, but I didn't get in. I would've applied for AP Biology, after all, I got the required grades in BOTH Chem and Bio, but not the overall GPA (I screwed up freshmen year).

It's just freshman year, let's just say by the end of the year I ended up with a 2.8 (and this is the complete opposite of what everyone expects of the typical "indian stereotype") -- right now I have a 3.17, and if i get the grades this semester, it will go up to a 3.5.

I still feel that I won't go to college, but I'm aiming for a UC.

Also, I'm mainly a part of only TWO clubs. Speech and Debate, and Junior State of America. In Speech and Debate, I'm extemp chair, and JSA, I'm secretary, and I attend practically EVERY meeting. I've never skipped a single one.

You have the UC's, the CSU's, and the community colleges (which help for transfering to the first two) - and that's just assuming you want to stay in CA. Obviously college admissions is a stressful process, but with so many different options, there's no reason to be extremely worried.

Look, if you have the brains, I really really urge you not to think of the quantifiable aspects of schooling. Find somewhere else to engage yourself - get a professor to do research with you, start up your own projects, read a little harder material on your own. I hope, I have a strong feeling, this kind of independent engagement would shine through in any application. I was in your same spot and felt convinced college wasn't for me -- but don't let a year or two of screwing everything up stand in the way of turning your life completely around. It's possible, and adcoms will admire you for the shape-up if you can convey it.

Everyone -- from my really good friends to my family, they all say I am smart, but I just fail to APPLY myself.

I think the main reason behind that is I don't really know what I want in life, I don't have the drive, nor the motivation to go forth for something.

And orchdorkbando, I go to a private college prep school, and personally I think it would be an insult to my parents if I do go to a community college.

aah, the typical Indian "community college is bad." I can sympathise with you :)

I think if you raise your grades Junior year, then colleges will see it as a good sign.
