<p>Pardon my ignorance regarding this topic but I wanted to ask a question about this date.</p>
<p>On the Academic Calendar it states that Thursday, August 25, 2011 is when instruction begins. I am assuming that I will have to attend the latter half of my Tuesday-Thursday class on the 25th. Can anyone else confirm this? Thank you!</p>
<p>yup, if it’s lecture. if it’s discussion, you probably don’t have to go unless you specifically get an email from your GSI/professor telling you to attend section.</p>
<p>What’s “latter half”? you have to go to all your TuTh classes starting on the 25th, and potentially discussion sections as well (depends on the class, sometimes they use the first section as a way to take attendance/drop people who don’t show up, etc.)</p>
<p>@Agneisse: the thursday class is the “latter half” of a tuesday/thursday lecture schedule, by week. i never had discussions during the first week before lecture, and even not until the second week of lectures but it important to be sure. most labs don’t have a first week.</p>
<p>Speaking of which, how come it says that the “Semester begins” on the 18th of August when there is nothing going on that week?
And are the welcome activites mandatory?</p>
<p>^ I think that’s more for administrative/professor-type purposes, it doesn’t affect students.</p>
<p>Welcome activities are all optional (except dorm floor meetings and stuff like that).</p>
<p>Go there unless you are informed not to go. You may miss something important.</p>
<p>I remember last year I had to go to both of my lectures on the first day of school (Thursday), but my Chem 4A lab was cancelled.</p>
